The federal government has set up four committees to evolve strategies on how the country is to respond to threats of climate after agreement reached at the United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Copenhagen.
Comprising Post-COP15 Conference, Mitigation, Technological Needs Assessment and Policy, the technical committees will work out an action plan for the country, a statement from Mr. Rotimi Ajayi, a special assistant to Environment Minister John Odey, said.
A committee on Adaptation Strategy had been set up prior to the conference last month.
Mr. Odey set up new committees today during a meeting attended by stakeholders, including members of the House of Representatives Committee on Climate Change, chaired by Hon. Eziuche Ubani, to review the Copenhagen Accord and work out the way forward for Nigeria.
“The committees are to examine the various aspects of the Copenhagen Accord in relation to Nigeria’s national interest and sustainable development,” the statement added.
